1 This 11x14 piece was created with a "stained-glass" type of approach. Each piece was placed together like a puzzle with real preserved plants.
2 This 11x14 piece was created using a variety of pressed flowers including an iris petal which resembled the baleen that these whales use to capture their food.
3 This 11x14 piece was inspired by the cattle that I grew up with and was created with a preserved leaf as well as other preserved plants.
4 The Purple Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a native vine despite its exotic appearance. It also produces an edible fruit.
5 Goldenrod (Solidago sp.) is a common native flower found in fields across the United States. Its bright yellow-gold color makes it distinctive along the landscape and is often mistaken for ragweed.
6. The redbud is the state tree of Oklahoma and is native to many parts of the country. While this particular tree is rather small, it is still a redbud tree and has the characteristic heart-shaped leaves.
7. While many drive by untouched fields and never take note of the plants calling it home, these untouched fields are my favorite places to find plants. This shadowbox highlights some of the beauty of the wild fields of the plains.
8. Snakes are some of the most misunderstood animals and one of my favorites. Snakes provide a crucial role in ecosystems all across the planet and can be found in all corners of the world (except the arctic and antarctic).
9. The T-Rex may no longer be living but it is one of the most recognizable dinosaurs.
10. Inspired by the birth of Willow at the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium, the giraffe remains the tallest animals still living and strikes a fantastic sight on the African savanna. Unfortunately four of the seven species of giraffes are endangered.
11. The American Bison once dominated the Great Plains but is unfortunately now only found in a few isolated herds. This piece was created to honor the legacy of the bison.
